HBO’s Last Of Us Show Set Photos Reveal Game-Specific Scene Filming
New set photos of the adaptation surface from HBO’s The Last of Us TV show, blatantly resembling a scene from the original video game.
New set photos from The last of us reveal how the show at least somewhat directly adapts the game. HBO’s upcoming show is based on Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic action-adventure game of the same name. The last of us game released in 2013 and not only sold over 17 million copies in 2018, but it also received unanimous critical acclaim and two prestigious year-end game awards. The game’s financial performance prompted director Sam Raimi to exploit it for a film adaptation. However, those plans didn’t work out and HBO eventually took the plunge and ordered The last of us Series television show.
Developped by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, The last of us stars The Mandolorian Pedro Pascal as Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting Bella Ramsey’s teenage Ellie out of the quarantine zone. According to the original games, it is believed that his DNA could be used to develop a vaccine against the deadly brain infection Cordyceps. Gabriel Luna, Jeffery Pierce, Nick Offerman, Anaa Torv and Storm Reid star alongside Pascal and Ramsey, with original voice actors Merle Dandridge, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson also appearing in key roles. Although The last of us With filming wrapped in June, new information and behind-the-scenes footage from the show continues to surface.

As the images show, Pascal and Ramsey fully embodied their roles as Joel and Ellie in costume-accurate. Some gaming fans worry that since the HBO series seeks to explore new avenues beyond the gaming universe, it might not be the honest adaptation they expect. However, Ramsey has already crushed those apprehensions when she revealed that The last of us is faithful to the emotional rhythms of the IP. Now, these new images further build confidence that the series will showcase the story and its central relationship even beyond the character costumes.
The new images are the latest to demonstrate how accurately the HBO series renders the elements and nuances of the live-action Naughty Dog game. Several previous photos (like one that saw Joel and Ellie hiding from a Clicker in a department store, and another that showed the duo attempting to enter a building) have teased that the adaptation will brilliantly recreate replica shots for shot of some of the The last of us the game’s most iconic moments. These scenes are sure to be a treat for audiences, presumably breaking the curse of video game adaptations that have met with mixed reviews, such as the Tom Holland-directed film adaptation of Unexplored Last year. Since The last of us has yet to set a preview of its official premiere, so it’s unclear if the accuracy of the game will continue past these previews. There seems to be a visible attempt to capture the tone and gameplay authentically, so hopefully, The last of us won’t disappoint when it hits the small screen.
